Wedding Collateral

Sporty & Rustic Illustrated Save the Date and Invitation

Winter 2020

Fall, sports, and critters.

My two friends got married in the fall of 2021, and asked for my help in designing their wedding collateral. Of course I was happy to help. With a fall wedding, the design direction draws inspiration from the season: decorative gourds and the beauty of fall foliage. But I also wanted to incorporate elements of their other interests: their love of sports and their love for animals. Animals hold a significant place in their lives, as they have cared for cats, dogs, rabbits, and even snakes. Additionally, both of them are avid sports enthusiasts, enjoying watching Philadelphia sports teams and playing hockey and softball. When it came to their wedding collateral, they desired a design that reflected the season, incorporated their personalities, but didn't overwhelm with sports references.

With these considerations in mind, I decided to illustrate a pattern that focuses on fall foliage, herbs, and gourds. To add a touch of whimsy, I scattered critters and sports equipment throughout the pattern, almost like a "Where's Waldo" game. This way, the design embraces the essence of the season while subtly incorporating their love for animals and sports.

For their logo or emblem, I wanted to maintain a cohesive aesthetic with the pattern. I chose to illustrate the letters "S" and "M" intertwined as a rope, playing off the idea of "tying the knot." This personalized emblem adds a symbolic touch to their wedding branding, capturing the essence of their union while harmonizing with the overall design direction.

By combining elements such as fall foliage, critters, and a subtle nod to their love for sports, the wedding collateral design strikes a balance that reflects both the season and their personalities. It creates a cohesive and visually appealing representation of their special day, embracing their passions without overpowering the overall wedding theme.
